This program is designed for companies to be able to hire a novice and train them enough to make sure they understand and are committed to the industry. It offers a low-cost investment for companies to attract, develop, and possibly retain new employees to the industry.

Training will consist of three phases:

  • Phase 1: Course training will consist of online Hot-Mix Asphalt Level I course work and will be a self-paced, with up to twelve (12) weeks allowed for completion. This will be an "open enrollment" course.
  • Phase 2: Work-based learning will begin once a student successfully completes the online coursework. The student will be allowed to work in the industry and assist in the activities completed by an HMA Level I technician.
  • Phase 3: Upon completion of the work-based learning phase, the student must attend and obtain full certification in either the CET-020 Mixture Aggregate Course or CET-021 Aggregate Technician Course and CET-029 Hot-Mix Asphalt Level I. 

The Hot-Mix Asphalt Technician Trainee course continues for a maximum duration of one (1) year. If the student fails to comply with all phases, the sponsoring company can no longer retain the Technician Trainee for employment in this capacity.
